flaxseed's Journal, 19 Nov 10

I've just realised that the first half of my last journal is missing and after I finally managed to stand on the scales and admit to myself how much I have gone up! I just don't seem to be able to get control of my eating. Its hard because I am trying to keep OH's weight up and I'm adding cream and butter to food and buying things I wouldn't normally consider. I'm so scared I'm going to end up back where I started but I still can't get control. My clothes are starting to get a little tight too.

We've had a visit from an occupational therapist and he has been given a seat for the shower, a trolley to help him move stuff around and a perch stool for the kitchen. We can also have a bed for downstairs if he needs it. It was all free too.

I'm going to try really hard today to get a handle on my eating - so here goes.....

Hi Flax sorry things have been so rough for you. Just do the best you can. Start small and do it everyday.

It's VERY hard to try to lose weight when your life has such big challenges. It also has to be hard to cook, when you have two different needs. Is there any way to add butters, creams, etc AFTER the food is cooked? .....or prepare in two different pans (I know that one is almost impossible). Very hard to do. But, please don't give up the race. You have to keep trying. I think of you a lot. Thanks for stopping by my journal. Take good care of yourself Flax.

Hi flax...it's no fun but I often make 2 meals at a time at my house for those who want full fat and those who are watching....take care of you Flax...you are worth nurturing yourself right now.

the fear of returning to your highest weight is real ... and the pressures and stresses you are experiencing, both physical and emotional are also very real. I wish I had words of wisdom that, when you read them, would suddenly bring you peace and motivation to eat smaller amounts, different foods, whatever it was you needed right now but of course there are no words to give you that. What I do know is that watching the man you love dearly struggle so with his health, and considering that these may be some of his last days with you can be extraordinarily exhausting, emotional, difficult, and at the same time precious. I don't know if there is something else you can do to nurture yourself that doesn't involve eating. I know that food, while it can certainly pack on the pounds also is like medicine for me. I'm not saying it is necessarily a healthy medicine, the side effects are weight gain and when you and I have worked so hard to get where we are it is frightening to consider that we might need to "start over" again. My dear Flaxseed, you are much more than the number on the scale. And, if indeed, you continue to gain all of your dear buddies here on fatsecret, across the world, care for you. NN's suggestion of separate meals might be the trick ... if you have the energy for that. Respite. Is there someone who can come in and be with OH while you take a stroll, a long hot bath, read a bit of a steamy novel, make a long phone call to a dear friend or loved one? You are, and have been, under a lot of stress. This journey is life long ... and the weight will come back off ... when you are ready. Perhaps just working at keeping it bay might be the trick. Like I said, I'm not sure what to offer except that you are a dear woman, a loved buddy, and we are here for you in whatever way we can be. It just doesn't seem like enough. You and OH are never far from my thoughts and prayers. Take the best care you can of you ... I know you are taking excellent care of OH.

Hi flaxseed. Thanks for stopping by and for the humorous words about getting down to my journal entry. God knows that if it were real exercise that it took, I certainly would be in perfect shape. :-) Regarding the fear of which you speak of above, don't we all know it only too well (I'm feeling a little of it right now). I suggest that you try to exercise maximum self discipline and restraint any time that you are around food. If that fails, consider leaving the premises immediately! (lol) At any rate, do *whatever is necessary* to bring yourself back into line ASAP. You have plenty on your mind and that is probably one reason that you are gaining. Being afraid of gaining weight and recognizing clearly what is going on are good signs. I am sure that, as you have done before, you will settle into a balanced and level headed approach soon. Keep up the good work buddy! :-)

Hi Flax, just a short stop to say hello and let you know we are still here and still thinking of you. Stop in and give us a word or two if you can. Hope you are staying warm and cozy as the weather has been very cold, even in Florida. Our humidity makes us really notice the cold. I am praying you are well and OH is doing as well as possible. Any luck on the duel cooking problem? Take care and I'll stop by again soon.

Eating for those needing to keep weight up is "normal". Of course you are cooking to keep OH going. Just do what you can in the midst of mayhem. Life here is also not normal with my daughter's surgery coming. It has been delayed to mid January and I eat with stress. My goal at this time is not weight loss but just trying to eat when anxious foods that will add less to the total pounds. Take care during the holidays to enjoy what is most special to both of you. I am thinking of you!
