Oh you never know when this monkey strikes. So pleased you were strong. Imagine how chubby children cope when they are addicted to the carbs and they need to be wheaned off. It is nice to see how your daughter understood - it's a good lesson for her too. It's funny though how some cooking smells so good - but coping is manageable.

Thanks for sharing, Paula. I confess I'm a bit worried with the holidays coming up. Wondering how I'll hold up. Hope I'm as strong as you are.

Good for you you didn't eat any. Ditto about the holidays, thank goodness I don't usually crave sweets, but I do love pumpkin pie piled with Cool Whip and pecan pie . . . mmm. Anyway, I usually crave real, yet fatty, food. Gotta keep the portions small. I've noticed recently I get fuller faster hopefully if I listen to my stomach the holidays will go by without a hitch.

kmg - take some time now to find some recipes for things you "JUST CAN'T DO WITHOUT"...and adapt them to your eating plan. I am fully convinced that we "REMEMBER" foods being sooooo much better...than they really are. A bite or two of anything...will likely satisfy you. You can do it!!!

So glad you resisted. The other day I made a strawberry cake that smells wonderful when it is coming out of the oven and on the cooling racks. A few hours later I leveled it and there was a big of a cake top. My husband kept talking about how good it smelled and that he had not had strawberry cake in ages. So he walked by, grabbed a piece and stuck it in his mouth. I was shocked. I told him he was crazy as he sat there chewing it, then he went to sink, spit it out and rinsed his mouth out. Then he said, you know it really didn't taste as good as I thought it was going to taste. The smell of it baking was better. I bet the tootsie roll would have been just like a big mouthful of sugar.
So which cupcakes did you make? I bet they were cute!

they had orange frosting, then jack-o-lantern eyes, nose, mouth cut out of toostie rolls into shapes, then layer the dark toostie w/ a smaller yellow (lemon) tootsie to really make them stand out as if they are lit up....add a small pretzel twist piece sticking out above the eyes for a stem...oh soooo cute! (we made decadent chocolate cake batter for the cupcakes...as that's my daughter's fiance's favorite!) Thank GOD they went home with HER!!!!

We don't really get trick or treaters at our apt. but I was tempted to buy a bag of Milky Ways "to hand out". Fortunately I resisted the temptation or I probably would have eaten some. Halloween is a difficult holiday to get through unscathed. Great job resisting the tootsie rolls - I love those also.

Oh my goodness, my crack would be brownies, which I made tonite for our mom's group that gets together once a week. I didn't even lick a crumb when they fell apart which would have totally been what I would do in the past, if they break I would eat the broken ones. I am a recovering brownie addict...lol.....I stuck with the veggie platter I made, my mushrooms and zucchini sticks. My goal is too close now to quit!

I love baking! I make my husband taste test everything now. It's not as much fun when you can't eat it. Tootsie Rolls were always great. They are low in fat, good excuse to eat them (you just ignore all the sugar and fake ingredients].Aren't you so glad now that you didn't have any? It was so smart of you to get them out of the house.
