donleonard's Journal, 13 Jun 20

I started this journey on May 23, mainly because my body was giving out. my knees were hurting me, my blood pressure was starting to get out of control, had a bad case of arthritis in the knee are because of my weight and my back was always hurting. when I went to a restaurant, I was too big to sit in a booth and had to ask for a table. first thing people notice about me was my stomach when I walked in a room. based on this, I finally decided to make a change. I just want to say thanks for those who have supported me by either leaving a comment or giving me a like. it really does make a difference. so far I have lost 25 lbs and by the end of the month I expect to have lost 35 lbs. in the past, my knees were always hurting me. I want to wait until the beginning of July to let my knees get stronger and I will start exercising. I have been taking weekly pictures of myself with a slight change in 2 months. when this journey is over, I'll post my begin pic and my end of the journey pic. again, thanks to those who have supported me.

Awesome job! While it is SO hard to lose weight (for me anyway) the benefits are well worth it. Wonderful to have a long term goal, equally important to take it one day at a time. Love your idea of taking weekly pictures. The changes can seem small and then when you look back....WOW!

Twenty years ago I weighed 321.6 pounds. I had to get extension seat belts in airplanes, I would check for armless chairs in restaurants before sitting down, I got the kids to pick up things that I dropped because it was hard to bend over. Initially I lost 150 pounds at a pound a week. It was amazing to be able to move my body and do things again. I began with swimming and some biking as those were easier on my knees and other joints. I recommend starting something in that area just to build the habit. Also view half to one pound a week to be reasonable. It all adds up in the end. Variety of things occurred and the weight came up however each time it has I have been able to get back to a decent weight mostly because I have the confidence of knowing how to do it. Also I have never returned to the 300s again. It is a journey.

well as an orthopedic nurse I can tell you that for every lb you loose you take 10lbs of pressure off your knee. The doctors I worked for (retired now) would not even consider knee replacements until patients came down to a reasonable weight...our take was that if the patient couldn't offer a little work into their own health the very intense surgical procedure, the cost of it and the recovery would be good for about 7 to 10 yrs and we would be redoing the procedure. So good for taking responsibility to bring your weight down. Will keep you in my prayers for a strong and steady journey
