Nan49's Journal, 20 Aug 10

Well, I have one more Friday off after today then I go back to eight-hour days. I got in another 5 miles of walking in today. I've been having a little problem with my knee. Probably because I spend so much time on my feet at work..on concrete (9+ hours a day). We do have rubber mats to stand on but its really hard to stay on them all the time. A friend at work told me she got a pair of Skecher Shape-ups and swears they have helped her knees. I've always thought they're kind of ugly but then I like Birkenstocks and alot of people think they're ugly too. Anyway, I bought a pair today. The ones I got say they're for people who stand on their feet all day. Hope they help. I wore them while I was out walking today and I could really feel the backs of my legs getting a workout.

wow! i commend you on the 5 miles walked! Wish I could motivate myself enough to do that! I love my Birkenstocks too! I bought a pair of the slip-on mule type shape-ups from Payless. I LOVE them! They have made a HUGE difference in how I feel at the end of the day. No lower back pain and my feet and legs don't hurt! As for the looks..I'm getting used to that! I hope you love them and that they help you out!

I do love my Birkenstocks! I bought my first pair about 8 years ago when I started the job I have now. They're a little expensive but they make a HUGE difference in the way my feet and back feel! I had back surgery 14 years ago (double laminectomy). Back then I worked in an office and spent most of my day sitting at a desk. I stayed at that job for 6 years after my surgery and I thought I would always have chronic back pain. I've been working at the job I have now for the past 8 years and now spend most of my days standing. It's only been in the past couple of months I've been having trouble with my knee but I have to say that since I started cutting all of the junk out of my diet, I don't have nearly the aches and pains I used to. All in all I'd say I feel pretty great! :)
