katrinat's Journal, 20 May 08

I haven't really been on for a few days-- I've been having a rough time emotionally. Not completely sure why. I think a lot has to do with my traveling for work so much. Although I love my job, and my kids don't need me here 24/7 per se, I feel like I'm missing out on so much. The traveling has done a lot for my self confidence in that I now know that I can do stuff on my own, but I am not a person who likes to be alone, so in that aspect, it's not a good thing. When a person spends too much time alone and with nothing good to keep their mind occupied, they tend to turn a normally very unimaginative mind into something that books are made of-- and depending on the mood, it's either Dean Koontz where some crazy person kills of the family or one of those sad love stories where the woman gets left in the dust!

Anyway, I just got back from the dentist. Had to have a root canal done, then build up on that one and a previous one where the build up had come off. I have a really good dentist-- this is the first time in a long time that I am happy with the work that has been done on me (of course, I'm still numb, so we'll see what I think when that wears off!). Only have a short time away from home this week-- I leave tomorrow morning and get back Thursday night. I get to work in town on Friday, and hubby and I have made plans to go out with a group of friends to play pool and have some drinks, so I'm looking forward to that. We are leaving Saturday morning for a short visit to my Mom's house in Tacoma-- which is very close to where Bully lives, but she will be at her mother-in-laws, so blah!. About an hour north of Seattle, there is a reptile farm that we are going to take our son to-- he's definitely more excited than I am! We also plan to go to the space museum there. My brother, his wife and their two kids (5 yrs and 7 months) will probably go with us. We are only staying until Sunday afternoon. Hubby and I want to have a day to enjoy just being off before we both have to get back to work!

Thanks for listening to me everyone. Have a good day!

Glad that you found a good dentist that you like... gotta have that! ;) Sorry I'm gonna miss ya, but no way in HELL I'd be caught going to the reptile farm with ya, YUCK! lol SO glad I have girls!! Eeewww. lol Makes my toes curl! Be sure you take some ibuprofen before the anesthetic wears off and it'll be more comfortable from the tendernous. :) Be safe!! xoxo

Sorry to hear you're out of sorts. Maybe you need to find a hobby that you can take with you on your trips. Something portable. Knitting, drawing, needlepoint, or some such craft. I'm glad you like your dentist because root canals can be tricky. I hope you still feel good once the freezing wears off. Enjoy your trip!

ouch! just the mention of a root canal makes my mouth hurt! You're lucky that you like your dentist. My hubby and I have been on a search for one for a while now....just seems like everyone that is recommended to us, doesn't take our works dental plan! I agree with Evelyn, maybe taking up a portable hobby will help you pass the time, although in Judy Garlands words, there's no place like home. How long have you been doing this job? Is there any way you can talk to your boss and try and create a different travel schedule for you? Have fun on your trip with your hubby :)

Speaking of... have you tried the Sudoku puzzles yet?? Think you might enjoy them! =D

Thanks for your words of support. I do like Sudoku-- I will put my book back in my laptop bag. I usually do that on the plane. It would probably help if I didn't sit in the hotel room watching CSI and crap like that, you think? lol. Cheeks, I've been in this position for a little over a year. My travel recently has been a little more than normal because one of our team (who was based in the bay) moved on to a different job and I was having to take care of his area in the interim. Thankfully, someone has been hired and I will start helping to train her on Friday and all next week. That should hopefully help alleviate some of the travel. I do have a couple of trips I am looking forward to-- we are having meetings in Kansas City next month for 3 days, staying in a casino hotel. Then, at the end of July, we are having another meeting session in Utah for 3 or 4 days, which my hubby is going on with me. Again, thanks for your words. I am once again reminded why I am glad Bully told me about this site!

But I know what ya mean until this month, I was gone at 5am and back at 7 / 7.30pm but no more, I've made a few lifestyle choices and spend more time with the gang these days.. You should have great weather when you get to Kansas City it has been gorgeous here lately. I can sympathize with the loneliness you feel when away from your family as I live alone. My kids would like me to get a hobby or as they are fond of telling me, adopt more children I think it is the spread the wealth mentality.
