The best thing I did for myself in all of 2012 was buy a water dispenser machine like you see in offices. It was a reward when I finished getting my paralegal. When I sold my last house, I decided to rent so my youngest could finish hs in this school district and I wouldn't be stuck here afterward in this outrageously expense tax district. I let the appliances convey because it was easier. I am in a house that I adore that a friend of mine thought she was flipping before the bottom fell out of the housing market. She has rented out since then. The downside is that she had her stoner baby brother do the renovations and the appliances are rental grade. Actually worse. They are stainless but that is where modern ends. No bells or whistles. The fridge doesn't even have an ice maker. What? I buy a bag of ice once a month and use it to fill a little ice bin. The rest takes up half the freezer. So, no ice dispenser or water dispenser. That is ok. Except that the house is 50 years old and the pipes are old etc. I used a Britta filter for a long time but oh my gosh, what a pain. Oh, and do you think any other person refilled it? Nope. So when graduation was coming I went to Lowe's and bought my machine and three 5 gallon jugs of water. My son goes and exchanges them when 2 are empty. (Do I love that? You betcha!) Since the very first day I have had it, my water consumption has skyrocketed. It has two reservoirs: one for cold, one for hot. I only turn on the heat for afternoon and evening tea, then flip it off. Just a life changer. Both of my boys love it, if it is possible, for me. They know that I find bottled water (small bottles) extremely annoying, so bad for the planet. Really a pet peeve when I watch TV shows and people are drinking store bought water in their own home. Where do they think the plastic goes? OK, that's off topic....
Back to today. Alex went after school and restocked my water, and remembered (!) to get the appliance bulb for the fridge that burned out yesterday. It doesn't take much to make me happy. Just kindness and consideration goes a lonnnng way.

SOOO true! Kindness and consideration does go a longggg way! Sounds like this was the perfect investment for you. I love the water dispenser in my fridge (which I recently got last year!) NOW, I wouldn't live without something like this. After this purchase, my husband got the bright idea to put a side spout w/ an undersink mounted filter - right beside the faucet area. I just go to the sink...fill...drink... WHOOOO HOOO!
