My fasting glucose has dropped to under 110 most mornings. Has not been over 120 for a few weeks. I am down 26 lbs. Can I conquer type 2 diabetes if I continue to lose weight? That would be great.

Possibly. I used to be on 120-140 fasting glucose despite taking 4 capsules of metformin everyday. It would go over 200+ if I don’t take maintenance meds coupled with my poor eating habits. When I started losing weight, it went down to 110 consistently. I’ve lost a total of 46 lbs, and able to maintain less than 100 consistently thru balance diet and exercise. I’m out if metformin for 1.5 years already. YMMV

I’m not sure I would use the word CURE— that sort of makes one think in terms of OK, that’s done now I can return to the way I used to eat. That is not the case. With continued diet control, physical activity and monitoring you can continue life without meds. This is a lifestyle change to continue keep you on the healthy side of diabetes.

I totally agree with Kenna above. Copd is said to have no cure either, yet my new doctor didn't mention it, my blood pressure and tests were all great since quitting smoking just 5 months ago. I was borderline Copd 3 years ago and still continued to smoke and had breathlessness and episodes up until quitting. Our bodies have the ability to fix themselves with the right care. You are what you eat (or whatever you put in your mouth applies) Exercise the good eating habits as a "diet" , not necessarily calorie counting once you are happy with your weight. Good habits should keep you healthy or at least less symptomatic.

Fiber optic— if you already have a COPD diagnosis don’t wait for a doctor to mention it- YOU take control of this issue and discuss it with him. I don’t know how old you are, but I am assuming you smoked heavily for sometime. It will not go away but can be managed. Google COPD X-ray images and read some of the information. You will want to stay on top of this.

It is possible for your diabetes to go into remission, but to remain in remission takes continued diligence.

Thanks for your concern and comments Kenna. Perhaps i did not convey my thoughts correctly as i cannot tell you the difference in my breathing and overall health since quitting smoking 6 months ago. Blood pressure, sugar levels, pulse, and cholesterol are all perfect. No more breathlessness or concerns. I will take your advice and ask him specifically about the Copd. I am just saying that i don't feel any symptoms anymore. Even if i should have it, there is not much i can do except what i am doing... eating better, exercising more and most of all keeping off of the smokes!
