jengetfit123's Journal, 07 Jan 19

Good Monday morning, fs! Feels like the first "open for business" day of the year! I am still muddling around with finalizing my goals.

Gonna pedal on helga for awhile this am, and try again with t25. Yesterday i ate atrociously (still need to log the rest of it -- ugh). I am embarrassed to be such a broken record, but dammit, i am going to keep working at it. This is an endurance game. I have endured far worse than this, believe you me. It is supposed to be 43 today, so will get out with the dog for a decent walk.

Rm piled up all the cardboard (it is ridiculous) and is taking it to recycling place today. He and i moved some furniture down to the basement and will move more this week. I am finally ready to let go of some of it, but it is a process. Will probably Craigslist it, or just donate. But we can see and move about the third bedroom now, and that is awesome. I am going to finally put that room together this year. All these things i have had on my list for so long that i gave up on them are slowly but steadily getting crossed off.

Anyway, hope everyone is off to a good week!

Welcome to the start of your new year!! Slow and steady really does win the race so keep up the good work and have fun getting your house the way you dream of!! You are inspiring me to tackle all the stuff in my living room that has been there since I had to get rid of my storage space - I don't like living with a storage space instead of a living room so this year I am going to get it cleared out and buy some furniture and make it nice - thanks for the inspiration to keep at it! Enjoy your lovely weather - pretty strange for a MN January but I bet the doggie loves it!!

Ty @nikeit! Yes, we call that third bedroom the "crap room." It is filled with overflow stuff. I have a full basement, and 80% of it is stuff i don't need. At a certain point it starts taking over your life! Rm likes his room, but has decided he wants his own furniture in there, and i am ready to have the third bedroom for home office. It has a walk-in closet filled with clothes i haven't been able to wear in 15 years, and even if/when they fit again, i likely won't want to wear most of them! So yeah, trying to simplify this year!

Also just reporting back, i put together a revised (6-day per week, ideally) workout schedule that hopefully lightens my load but still has variety. I did 35 minutes with helga today, and feeling good about that. Also going to try to have eating window from 2pm to 8pm every day.

Great job on setting goals and the plans to get there.

That sounds like a great plan! I know what you mean about the old clothes - I got rid of about 20 overstuffed big trash bags of clothes - it sure cleared up closet space and some boxes of clothes I never unpacked - they were okay but many were WAY too small or I just finally got sick of looking at them. I thought I would cry about it but instead I felt elated when Goodwill came and picked them up! All 3 times they came :) A win-win there for sure. Six days of exercise is daunting to me but you do such a better job with that than I do. Glad you have the variety because that is important to keep motivation high. My eating window has helped more than anything I think - I'm not sure why I can stick to it but so far so good. One thing I noticed is that with my window closing at 6pm I have cut out almost all of the hours I used to just graze on junk which is a miracle if you ask me :) Here's to reclaiming our homes and ourselves - no 'motivational' commercials required!! LOL

Good for you. Letting go of stuff is really good for clearing your mind. I have gotten rid of so many things over the years and a clutter free life is amazing. It also feels great to give items to charitable organizations anonymously.

Hi ladies! I too have the mtivation and goal to purge the body and my home of unwated weight and unuseful items. Have you watched or read Marie Kondo's book and program? The magic art of tidying up. my daughter did it lsst year and its amazing the difference in her home and anxiety level. Here is to new beginings. Best of luck!

Hi hi-low! YES to both -- i read the book and just queued up the show on netflix. I read the book a couple of years ago and tabled it bc i find the whole thing overwhelming. But her basic way of thinking about "things" has stuck with me and enabled me to start sorting through a lot of stuff and start to ID what i might part with. I was explaining it to my sister recently and ended up buying it for her. It is literally on my nightstand (you can see it on top of my datebook in the pic) awaiting a closer read. It is just so emotional, i can only take it little by little. Kudos to your daughter, i love that, and totally believe it made a big difference!

Jen, congrats on the plan, the steps, the goals, and ultimate success(painting a picture now versus waiting); what type of bike is Helga? Just curious.

Hi @terrapin12, helga is a 10-yr-old elliptical. The brand is "pro form." Hi @ greg sarchet, we are talking about a book and show about organizing/decluttering called "the life-changing magic of tidying up" by marie kondo. Ty @hcb, @erquiaga and @tahoebrun!
