ShyGuy's Journal, 30 Sep 12

This past week has been full of ups and downs; and I'm thankful, to God, that there have been more ups, than downs. :-) I began the week by reaching a new low in my weight loss, certainly a victory; was complimented by a student telling me, I look smaller, than the last time she'd seen me, another victory; gained a small amount of weight back, by making the mistake of getting sugar laden, instead of sugar free, cough drops; and finally, attending the Home Going ceremony of my brother's mother-in-law. Yes, my brother's mother-in-law, passed away, one week ago, and we had her Home Going, yesterday; but it wasn't, truly, a time of sorrow. We were celebrating the life of a remarkable woman, and though there were some tears of sadness, there was a great many more of joy, in knowing that she has gone home to be with the Lord. In a time where it's stereotypical for people to have had problems with their in-laws; this is what my brother had to say about his mother-in-law, "Hey ma, I would always say when I walked through your door, you always had a kind word for me, thank you, for allowing me to be a part of the family, Love always, your son in law". This was only one of the warm sentiments, shared, at yesterday's preceedings. Also, of special note, a long time friend of their family, came to join in on the celebration, and blessed everyone, by singing for all those in attendance; Stevie Wonder. He was there, to celebrate her life, fellowship with the family and friends, and gracious enough to allow a few pictures to be taken, during the Repast. He also came by my brother's house, later in the evening, and continued to hang out, eat some more, and just chill, with family and friends. It was a pleasure meeting him, as this was my first time, whereas my brother, and sister-in-law, have known him for years, and told me such while I was still living on the West Coast. It was so nice to celebrate someone's life, that way; and even cooler to have Stevie come and join us. It was also kinda cool to have a conversation with the, 6 ft, 6in, tall body guard, that was there with Stevie, as he was one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. The music was great, the food fantastic, and everyone in chill mode; the end of an interesting week indeed. :-)

I am very sorry for your loss, yet I find your concept of a funeral very uplifting - even without the celebrity guest. Hope everything can get back to normal this week.

How wonderful to celebrate "Going Home" rather than dwelling on the earthly loss. And, it always is great to know the "famous" people we are familiar with are just regular people with special talents.

Thanks ladies. The Home Going celebration for my dad, a year ago, was much the same, and one of my sister-in-law's sisters, blessed us by singing, being an accomplished vocalist herself, and a local celebrity. Their, family, friendship, with Stevie goes back farther than I know, so he is a family friend, who also happens to be a celebrity. Buffy, you're right, the very concept of a Home Going is uplifting, and relieves the family of a lot of stress; as we were laughing and remembering the good times, knowing also that we will see our loved ones again. God gives us that peace, and we accept it. I don't know what life is like for "famous" people like Stevie, on a daily basis, but I do know that he can just relax, and be around family and friends, when he's here. :-)

What a celebration of a loved ones life! This dear lady is not dead in the sense most believe to be true these days, but she is alive, present with the Lord! What a comfort for us who are still living in this realm and whom the Lord has not called home yet. We have a hope, we will see our loved ones again. There will be no more tears in His presence.Although we mourn, Jesus told us to mourn with those who mourn, we will miss that loved one here with us, but what joy to know how it all comes out in the end! :) <><
