eating at night isn't what makes you gain weight unless you're going to sleep right after you eat, or you're eating a lot more than you should. And you need to allow a substantial amount of time in between weighing yourself and when you last ate. I try to allow myself 8 - 10 hours. So if I last ate at midnight, I allow two hours to digest before going to sleep, so I go to sleep at two, and when I wake up at ten, I weigh myself.

Yea, it's mostly the amount of calories you take in versus when you actually eat. But your body only digests a certain amount at a time, so if your eating most of your calories at night, the body will use what it needs and store the rest as fat (if you go to bed you don't get the chance to burn it off). Spread your calories throughout the day. I try to get most of my calories in by 6pm. Then I have some fruit, veggies or a yogurt at night. What's that saying? Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like ??? and dinner like a pauper..lol
