Teenagers are notorious for making snide, remarks to substitute teachers. So, today, without realizing it, a young man actually paid me a compliment, hoping or rather assuming he'd done just the opposite. He said, "You look like Barack Obama; you sound like him too". I had to laugh, to myself, when that happened; as in the past, students in similar situations, trying to push my buttons, compared me to Eddie Murphy's character, "The Nutty Professor", an extremely overweight character, done for comic effect; at which I rightfully bristled, whether there was any shred of truth in it or not. However, knowing that the President is slim and trim, and an accomplished speaker, welcomed this new comparison. LOL :-) I may still have a ways to go, on my weight loss journey, but at least the kids will have to find another way to push my buttons. LOL :-)

A very nice complement indeed! As for the Nutty Professor, I can think of worse things. But teenagers being who they are, you have to be prepared for just about anything. Sometimes I have a hard time believing I ever acted like that!

Years ago, I use to work at a placement facility for juvenile offenders, thugs actually, and those boys would curse at you, and as I would tell them sometimes, call me everything but a child of God. One day after telling a boy that, he said, "Okay, you're a child of God"; at which we both had a good laugh. LOL :-)

ShyGuy, the student most likely meant it as a compliment. That's what I think ;)

You may be right Gigi; but after years and years of students taking pot shots at me, the last thing I expect to hear, is something positive, especially when they are laughing about it, after making the comment. Either way, I took it as a compliment, whether it was meant that way, or not. :-)

As a former principal...I know too well your lament of being a substitute teacher. I agree with Gigi and am thrilled that when the students see you, The Nutty Professor is not their first thought! Way to go, buddy!
